The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation (BMWF) makes every attempt to keep volunteers safe by providing safety gear, well maintained tools and skilled crew leaders. However, trail work is not without risk. Certain risks are inherent in each activity and cannot be eliminated without destroying the unique character of the activity. Each volunteer is covered under a Forest Service volunteer agreement. You MUST read the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)  and become familiar with the potential dangers and risks involved with this volunteer project. 

BMWF ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RISK: In addition to signing up as a Forest Service Volunteer, you are also required to read and understand the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation (Non-profit partner of the USFS) acknowledgment of risk. Volunteer safety is the number one priority of the BMWF, however traveling, working and living in the Wilderness is not without its risks. 

NOTICE TO VOLUNTEER: Volunteers are not considered Federal employees for any purposes other than tort claims and injury compensation. Volunteer service is not creditable for leave accrual or any other benefit. However, volunteer service is creditable work experience. By signing this application the volunteer(s) understand(s) s/he may be subject to a reference check, background check, and/or criminal history inquiry. 

PRIVACY ACT STATMENT: Privacy Act Statement Collection and use is covered by Privacy Act System of Records OPM/GOVT-1 and USDA/OP-1, and is consistent with the provisions of 5 USC 552a (Privacy Act of 1974), which authorizes acceptance of the information requested on this form.  The data will be used to maintain official records of volunteers of the USDA and USDI for the purposes of tort claims and injury compensation.  Furnishing this data is voluntary, however if this form is incomplete, enrollment in the program cannot proceed.  

We, the undersigned volunteer crew members, acknowledge the safety hazards and precautions as outlined in the JHA according to our project and accompanying emergency evacuation procedures. We agree to participate under the provisions of each of these documents.
