Description

* This Project is open to current BHA members only*
Looking for a way to give back to your public lands in tangible ways? Come join your fellow BHA members for some good times in the Great Bear Wilderness! Get dirty and a bit sore while experiencing a true connection with the landscape through Stewardship.  Volunteers will meet the Crew Leader Saturday morning in Hungry Horse and caravan the hour drive to the trailhead.  After sorting gear and supplies for the packer and shouldering your backpack, you will hike the 14 miles into camp. Basecamp will be on the Wild and Scenic Upper Middle Fork of the Flathead, deep in the the Great Bear Wilderness. Sunday- Thursday volunteers will be working on trail #214.  Basic trail maintenance and clearing will be the primary focus. Crosscuts,  pulaskis, shovels and hand saws will be the tools of choice.  After work relax by the river or try your luck at fishing! There will be a day off mid week to explore the area or just focus on fishing.  Friday the group will pack up and hike back out to the trailhead and civilization.

Flowing past huge mountains and through deep canyons, the Middle Fork, along with the South Fork, is Montana’s premier wilderness river. The remote setting of the Middle Fork keeps the wilderness portion relatively free of both fishermen and floaters. Except for during spring run-off, which can last well into July in some years, the waters of the Middle Fork Flathead River are exceptionally clear. Be sure to have your fishing license handy!

BMWF will provide all food, tools and group gear.
